Eyelid Surgery

One of the common cosmetic surgeries is eyelid surgery also commonly known as Blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty is the surgery to remove excess tissue, fat and skin from and around the eyelids (upper and lower eyelids) to rectify ageing look such as drooping and puffiness. The surgery actually doesn’t remove wrinkles. It only removes excess and unwanted tissue, fat or skin. To remove wrinkles, one has to seek Botox treatment. Eyelid surgery will not be able to change the ethnical look of patient – typically means a Chinese eye will remain a Chinese eye even you might have lessen the drooping look.

There are risks involved in all cosmetic surgery and this includes eyelid surgery. The usual side effects include temporary swelling and blurred vision for a few days. The real risk is the complications during the surgery with the anesthesia or in the post surgery with infection. Although major problems are uncommon, you should consult your cosmetic surgeon to make sure that you understand the risks before you choose to have eyelids surgery.

Pre-Surgery
You should have at least several consultations with your doctor. You should discuss and understand how the surgery will work and what results you can expect. Modern medical facilities provide you with digital images of yourself during and after the surgery so that you know what are being done. You will be directed to follow some food restriction before the day of your surgery. You should get help for transport home from operation and help on daily chores as your vision may be blurry.

During Surgery
On the day of surgery, you will receive anesthesia, which you can choose to have local or general. The surgery is a minor one and can be done in a clinic or at a hospital. It will about 2.5 hours, for the surgery which depends on your specific needs. The cosmetic surgeon will start by making tiny incision around your eyes to separate the skin for the fat underneath. The tissue or excess substance will be removed and the cut will then be carefully closed.

Post Surgery
You may feel tightness and sore on your eyelids after the cosmetic surgery. This will subside in a few days. If everything proceed as normal, you should feel “freshened” with more energetic outlook of yourself.
