Verify your health using cholesterol indicator

How healthy are you? You might be cycling everyday but that does not mean you are healthy. I know of a man who hike everyday but he was pronounced death when his vein burst. Cholesterol that is what you should check – it is an indicator of your health. Check them regularly.

A typical cholesterol report has several numbers which you could understand on how healthy you are. Modern medical cholesterol examination has been very accurate to provide the exact levels of your cholesterol.

You will be given numbers with an explanation, but sometime it can be very confusing. You can obtain a test kit for cholesterol so that you can test yourself at home. Sometime, you could find that it is difficult to understand the test kit, but if you take the time to learn and read the instructions and menu then you will be able to understand the results and the numbers better.

The first number is usually the bad cholesterol and it is often referred to as low density lipids (LDL) cholesterol. You should lower this type of cholesterol. Bad cholesterol make up within the range 65-75% of your total cholesterol. Make sure that your LDL cholesterol is less than 130. LDL cholesterol is the type that causes heart attacks. If you have risk such as obesity or hereditary cardiac disease than you should keep this number lowers than 100. Your diet is very important in your cholesterol reading.

The second number is the good cholesterol or high density lipid (HDL) cholesterol. This HDL cholesterol should be at least 35 or higher for men, but for women it should be 40 or higher. Women have easier time raising their HDL levels than men do. Regular exercise and non smoking help raise the HDL level.

The last number for the cholesterol test will be the total number of LDL and HDL. If you keep the levels of LDL and HDL within normal range, then you will be able to have a good total for LDL and HDL combine.

Nevertheless, you must consult your doctor if you have any question to ask about your cholesterol numbers. They will be able prescribe proper medication for your health.
